- iSchool New Student Orientation and Fair — MGH Commons, APC Table, Monday Sept. 25, 2006 2:00-4:30 p.m. As part of iWelcome Week , the Archives and Preservation Club will have an information table at the iSchool "Fair." Stop by, meet club officers and members, and learn about the APC!
- APC Brown Bag Presentation, location TBA, Tuesday Sept. 26, 2006 12:00-1:00 p.m. Help us kick off a great year of APC-sponsored events by bringing your lunch to our introductory session. We'll talk about the history and future of the APC, how you can join, and the field of archives and preservation in general. This event is part of iWelcome Week.
- Archives Fair — Suzzallo Espresso (Suzallo Library Room 101), Wednesday, October 11, 2006 9am - 3pm
The Archives Fair is part of Archives Week in Washington State. Participating repositories will have displays of their resources, and staff from each institution will be on hand to talk about their collections and services.

National Archives and Records Administration (Pacific Alaska Region) Tour

- Join us for a VIP tour of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Pacific Alaska Region! NARA’s mission is to ensure "for the citizen and the public servant, for the President and for the Congress and the Courts, ready access to essential evidence."
- The National Archives' Pacific Alaska Region has its headquarters in Seattle. The diverse records are of general historical interest and genealogical. The Seattle facility also serves as a Records Center, storing records from Federal agencies and courts in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and available for agency retrieval as needed.
- The Pacific Alaska Region headquarters houses over 34,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from about 1850 to the 1990's. Collections include photographs, maps, and architectural drawings created by nearly 100 federal agencies.
- The tour will include an overview of archival and records management storage facilities; reading rooms, including the extensive reading room for genealogy; as well as a look at the map dehumidification and encapsulation facility. NARA is located at 6125 Sand Point Way NE. Visitors will congregate at the main entrance to the building. - APC General Meeting, MGH 310D, Monday Nov. 27, 2006 4:00-5:00 p.m.
- Washington Film Preservation Project with Nicolette Bromberg and Hannah Palin
- Maps/Special Collections classroom in Allen Library, Thursday Nov. 30, 2006 4:30-6:00 p.m.
- Nicolette Bromberg, Visual Materials Curator at UW Special Collections, along with Hannah Palin, film archivist; will talk about a consortium of institutions with a common goal of caring for film collections. They will speak about film preservation, goals of the consortium, and holdings of participating institutions. In addition, clips from several archival films processed as part of WFPP will be shown at the talk.
- Directions: Go to the lobby of the Allen Library North where the information desk is located. You will see crows hanging from the ceiling. Take the elevator in that lobby to the basement. When you get off the elevator, turn to your right. The classroom is the first door on your right.
- Please note: To prevent the items on view from being damaged, you'll be asked to leave your coats, bags, books, purses, etc. at the front of the room. No food or drink is allowed in the room.
Winter Quarter 2006
- Distance Residency Book Arts presentation with Sandra Kroupa, Special Collections classroom, Friday Jan. 5, 2007 3:00-5:00 p.m.
- The Archives & Preservation Club and Book Arts Interest Group present a talk on book arts with Sandra Kroupa, Book Arts & Rare Books Curator. The talk will feature works from the UW Special Collections. The first hour will discuss historical book arts, and the following hour will discuss modern book arts. There will be a break in between. Attendees are welcome to either or both talks.

Seattle Municipal Archives Tour

- Join us for a VIP tour of the Seattle Municipal Archives led by Scott Cline, City Archivist. The Seattle Municipal Archives supports the goals of the City of Seattle and the citizens of the City by identifying, acquiring, arranging, describing, preserving, and making accessible - for the use of City agencies, scholars, students, and the general public - the records of enduring value created or received by City agencies and elected officials. Its holdings include textual records, maps, drawings, audiotapes, videotapes, reels of motion picture film, and over 1.5 million photographic images of City projects and personnel.
- Scott Cline has been City Archivist with the Seattle (WA) Municipal Archives since 1985. Prior to his current job, he was the Jewish History Archivist at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio (1982-1985). Scott's graduate training is in history and archives administration; he received a Master's degree in 1982 from Portland State University.
- Scott is a past president of the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA), the profession's national certifying body. He is active regionally and nationally in other archival and historical organizations. He has chaired several Society of American Archivists groups including the Committee on Evaluation and Institutional Development, the Government Records Section, and the Local Government Records Roundtable. And he is a former president of Northwest Archivists. Scott has published articles and presented papers on archives topics, American Jewish history, Pacific Northwest history, and sports history.
- The Archives is located on the third floor of Seattle's City Hall at 600 Fourth Avenue. Visitors should enter the building at the Fifth Avenue entrance. For more information about the Archives, please visit http://www.cityofseattle.net/CityArchives/.
