Union Bay Rowing Club

New Member Information

Novice Rowers

UBRC conducts two novice rowing classes per year in conjunction with the IMA sports skills classes during summer and fall quarters. These classes provide an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of rowing. The curriculum includes off-the-water as well as on-the-water coaching in technique, strength training and coxswain skills. Completion of the Novice Class is required of all members unless they have participated in a collegiate rowing program within twelve months of joining time club. This exemption does not include skill classes or intramural rowing programs. More information about the next novice class is available from the IMA (543-2571) or via the IMA Sports Skills website

If you have had little or no rowing experience, you must take the novice class and attend all session in order to join the club. Any questions should be addressed to the novice chair, Sharon Elsayed: selsayed@u.washington.edu

Experienced Rowers

Rowers with substantial rowing experience may be able to join the club without participating in the novice class. If you have past rowing experience and are interested in joining the club, plase contact one of our co-captains, Stephanie Benight or Veronika Glukhova. All members regardless of experience level are required to attend a safety orientation and pass a float test before they can begin rowing with the club.
